Concept to Creation: The Making of Bhāava Jewelry

At Bhāava, we believe that understanding the process behind crafting each piece of jewelry is as important as wearing it.

What sets our creation process apart is the commitment to originality. Unlike mass-produced imitations flooding the market, each design emerges from an idea or concept that is consistently developed until it reflects our creative vision.

Everything at Bhāava is made in Mumbai, India, where our expert karigars craft every piece by hand. This commitment to local production not only ensures the highest quality standards but also allows us to support and celebrate the Indian craftsmanship and design!

Let’s see what goes into the making of jewelry at Bhāava, step by step:

1. SKETCH:

First, we start by sketching out ideas on paper. These sketches go through several revisions, and only a handful of designs end up in the final collection.

2. CAD (COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN):

While a design might look impressive on paper, its true potential is only realized through Computer-Aided Design (CAD). CAD gives us a complete 3D view of the product to ensure precise dimensions and intended functionality before moving forward

3. CAM (COMPUTER AIDED MANUFACTURING):

Once the CAD design is approved, we make a physical prototype of the piece. Simply put, CAM is a 3D print of CAD. This step lets us see our idea come to life as a physical object, giving us a clear picture before we dive into production.

4. DYE MAKING

A specialized machine transforms our CAM prototype into a silicone mold, known as a liquid dye. This process allows us to replicate multiple pieces of the same design.

5. WAX TREE

After preparing the dye, we pour liquid wax into it. As it cools, the wax solidifies into individual pieces. These wax pieces are then assembled into a tree-like structure, matching the quantity of products to be made in order to prepare for the casting process.

6. CASTING

Next, we cover the wax tree with plaster inside a cylindrical container. Molten brass metal is poured over the plaster and then placed into an oven heated to around 1000 to 1500°C. Here, the metal solidifies, taking the desired mold shape.

7. FILING & ASSEMBLY

After removing the freshly cast brass pieces from the oven, we carefully file rough edges and smooth surfaces by hand.

8. POLISHING

After cleaning the pieces with a solution, they are placed into a magnetic machine to remove impurities and further smooth the metal surface.

9. ELECTROPLATING

In this step, we apply a layer of gold microns to the brass metal. This enhances the shine and appearance, resembling real gold, while also providing anti-tarnish properties. Our jewelry is hypoallergenic as we ensure it is nickel-free, catering to all skin needs.

10. ENAMELLING

The final step in our process is the enameling stage, where colors are carefully filled into the metal wherever the design allows. This intricate process is done by hand, one piece at a time, color by color. The result: a vibrant and rewarding finish to our creations.

And there you have it! The journey from concept to creation of Bhāava Jewelry. Each piece is a testament to passion, creativity, and craftsmanship, embodying the essence of our brand and the beauty of Indian artistry.
